Time for Minnesotans to advise policymakers on state’s budget

The policy debate doesn’t end with this week’s elections. In fact, with a new governor and many new legislators taking office in 2011, the discussion is just beginning, and it’s critical that you be a part of it.

The Citizens League, with funding from the Bush Foundation, is launching a series of 25 community discussions that give Minnesotans an opportunity to weigh in on the state’s budget challenges. Participants will be able to identify their values and priorities, such as taking a balanced approach to budget shortfalls.

The findings of these community discussions will be shared with policymakers in January 2011. Decisionmakers need to hear from you about the importance of vital public investments, like education, health care, and infrastructure, that are the foundation of Minnesota’s future.

The community events – designed to be informative, fast-paced, and interactive – start tonight and go through December 15. You’ll find the full schedule at the Citizens League’s website, and we encourage you to share this information with your networks to encourage participation.

Minnesotans can also weigh in and monitor progress online at Citizing.

The Minnesota Budget Project was glad to be part of a group of community leaders and budget experts whose advice the Citizens League sought in designing these workshops. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to be a part of the discussion about the future of our state.
